9 – Show empathy

Empathy is the art of knowing others, understanding their feelings, perceiving their points of view, having a sincere interest in their concerns, and thus being able to maintain harmonious relationships with a wide variety of individuals.

Empathy should not be confused with sympathy, which is rather the feeling of being “touched” and of feeling the need to act to relieve the suffering of others.

10 – Be humble and vulnerable

Having the courage to be vulnerable as a manager, the courage to be yourself is the cornerstone of inspiring and necessary leadership.

Humility is knowing how to recognize bluntly your mistakes and shortcomings, not pretending to be Superman, taking care to put others at ease, encouraging and respecting different points of view, knowing how to build on strengths of each other and surrounding yourself with people who are often better than you.

11 – Demonstrate emotional intelligence

Emotional intelligence represents a set of verbal and non-verbal skills allowing an individual to generate, recognize, express, understand, and evaluate his own emotions and those of others in order to orient his thoughts and actions to face the demands and pressures of the environment.

To develop emotional intelligence, a good manager must first know himself! Why? Simply because the one who is deaf in the face of what he feels remains at the mercy of his feelings. He must also learn to manage his emotions, adapt them to different situations, and show empathy.

12 – Know how to surround yourself

Success is teamwork and, in this context, one of the qualities of a good manager is that he must know how to surround himself well, know how to judge others, and know-how to build effective teams.

He must know the recipe for a dream team:

know their needs and be realistic;
know how to build on each other’s strengths and optimize them;
focus on diversity and complementarity.
 

13 – Being action and solution-oriented

A good manager cannot simply see things; he must take action with his team!

Those who hesitate generally do so out of perfectionism, procrastination or fear of risk, which has the effect of delaying taking the necessary actions quickly and at the right time.

14 – Know how to trust others

A manager will never be a great leader if he wants to do it all by himself or get all the credit for himself.
